Question:
When I try to install Norton Anti Virus 05 it stops installing and says that it cannot complete the installation. I have uninstalled norton 03 and i still have this problem

This document is designed to assist you in the proper uninstall of NAV 2003, which must be performed using the proper uninstall tool available for free download from symantecs site. Because the AV software makes changes at the operating system level it is important that you follow the correct procedure.

Norton AntiVirus installed as a stand-alone product
Follow the instructions in each section in the order listed. Click the icon to the left of the that section and follow the instructions.


    To run the Rnav2003 removal utility to remove previous versions of Norton AntiVirus

    Decide which method to use
    1. If you are running Windows XP:
      • And you upgraded from Windows 98/Me/2000 without first uninstalling Norton AntiVirus, go to Method 1.
      • And Norton AntiVirus was installed after upgrading the operating system, go to Method 2.
    2. If you are running Windows 98/Me/2000, go to Method 2.

    Method 1
    1. Follow the instructions in the document Removing Norton AntiVirus 2003 or earlier by using the Rnav2003.exe removal utility when Add/Remove programs fails to download the Rnav2003.exe removal utility to your desktop.
    2. Right-click the Rnav2003.exe removal utility, and then click Properties.
    3. Click the Compatibility tab.
    4. Select "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
    5. From the drop-down menu, choose the operating system that you had before you upgraded to Windows XP.
    6. Click Apply > OK.
    7. Double-click the Rnav2003.exe icon. When prompted, choose the version of Norton AntiVirus that was originally installed. (For example, say that you originally installed Norton AntiVirus 2001 and then upgraded to Norton AntiVirus 2002 and then upgraded to Norton AntiVirus 2003. You would run the RNAV2003.exe removal tool for Norton AntiVirus 2001 first, restart the computer, run the utility again for Norton AntiVirus 2002, restart the computer again, run the utility one more time for Norton AntiVirus 2003, and restart the computer one last time.)
    8. Go on to the section "To reinstall Windows Script 5.6." 

    Method 2
    1. Follow the instructions in the document Removing Norton AntiVirus 2003 or earlier by using the Rnav2003.exe removal utility when Add/Remove programs fails to download the Rnav2003.exe removal utility to your desktop.
    2. Double-click the Rnav2003.exe icon. When prompted, choose the version of Norton AntiVirus that was originally installed. (For example, say that you originally installed Norton AntiVirus 2001 and then upgraded to Norton AntiVirus 2002 and then upgraded to Norton AntiVirus 2003. You would run the Rnav2003.exe removal tool for Norton AntiVirus 2001 first, restart the computer, run the utility again for Norton AntiVirus 2002, restart the computer again, run the utility one more time for Norton AntiVirus 2003, and restart the computer one last time.)
    3. Go on to the section "To reinstall Windows Script 5.6."


    To reinstall Windows Script 5.6
    Follow the steps for your version of Windows.
    • Windows 2000/XP
    1. Go to the Microsoft Windows Script 5.6 Web site.
    2. Click the Download button under the section headed "Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000 and XP."
    3. Click Open or "Run this program from its current location."
    4. Click Yes at the next prompt.
    5. Click Yes at the license agreement.
    6. When the installation is finished, at the "Windows Script 5.6 is now installed!" dialog box, click OK.
    7. Close all running programs, and restart the computer when prompted.
    8. Go on to the next section.
    • Windows 98/Me
    1. Go to the Microsoft Windows Script 5.6 Web site.
    2. Click the Download button under the section headed "Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition and Windows NT."
    3. Click Open or "Run this program from its current location."
    4. Click Yes at the next prompt.
    5. Click Yes at the license agreement.
