Question:
I need to buy a copy of Windows XP Pro. Two weeks ago my hard drive crashed. The repairman put on a 30 trial of XP PRO. I need to buy a copy and have it registered. Can I reinstall a new copy of XP PRO over top the temporary copy that I currently have?

Solution:

Yes, you may install a RETAIL version of the software over the old version.

You may not install an OEM version over the trial version.
