Will Windows XP Home Edition OEM activate or are keys already used
ID: 444 Category: Software Installation Support Status: Resolved Views: 605

Question:
My daughter's laptop hard drive crashed. We are replacing the hard drive but do not have original software. Will we run into trouble trying to activate OEM software with Microsoft? Have the keys already been used?

Solution:

You will not have problems registering the software.  We don't sell used software.

Although it's unfortunate her hard drive crashed, it's actually the perfect instance to use OEM software for an installation.  It's sort of using it like it was designed to be used, that is for an installation on a hard drive that's never been used before.
