Question:
I was wondering what are the "catches" to buying and installing OEM Win XP Pro rather than the regular version? I'm wondering what the main difference is besdies the huge price gap. Is there anything wrong/bad with chosing to buy the OEM product?
Thanks! Bobby
Solution:
Hey Bobby. There is a catch, if you're microsoft! Losing the revenue they make on their retail box which is essentially the same software!
But there is a difference when you install. OEM software must be installed for the first time on a hard-drive, as it is sold and made as Original Equipment Manufacturer software. It is not made to install over another operating system. So you will need to erase the harddrive, or use a new one to install this version of XP.
Also ther's no printed manual, but XP doesnt need one as its system tools and help are essentially its manual. Plus, theres an electronic version on the disk somewhere. This is, I want to emphasize, a genuine, legitimate microsoft product with a genuine microsoft license, as made in the factory. Everything we stock is guaranteed legal in every way. We offer these prices because we can. We dont charge you the margins a store does and we dont spend large amounts on expensive advertising. Thats why our software, although its the same software, costs less.
