FileMaker Server 9.0
- Advanced
FileMaker Pro has outstanding peer-to-peer sharing built right in. So why add a server? There are three key reasons: expanded availability, enhanced security and increased performance.
Simply install FileMaker Server software on a dedicated computer and upload your FileMaker Pro databases to the server. You and your team will instantly realize how fast and easy it is to access your databases 24/7, schedule automated backups, and find information and much more!
Whether you have a team of two or a department of hundreds, FileMaker Server makes it effortless to securely share your FileMaker Pro databases with Windows and Mac OS users on your network or over the Web.
Advanced Version Features
Connect to more users
Instant Web Publishing provides the ability to extend your database solution to the Web for viewing of status and lists, and for the submission of information using forms. FileMaker Server Advanced increases the number of simultaneous Instant Web Publishing IP addresses supported to 100 compared to a maximum of 5 simultaneous IP addresses in FileMaker Pro. FileMaker Server Advanced users will also experience the increased availability and performance that comes from connecting to a server.
Gateway to more programs
ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) and JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) support makes it possible to read from and write to FileMaker Pro databases hosted by FileMaker Server from a variety of external programs and development tools. Make the most of your expertise in these widely understood, industry-standard exchange formats.Unlike FileMaker Pro, which only allows ODBC/JDBC access from the local computer running FileMaker Pro, FileMaker Server Advanced enables up to 100 simultaneous ODBC/JDBC remote connections. Connections can be established by programs running on the local server or from programs running on remote clients. With the ODBC/JDBC Data Souce feature of FileMaker Server Advanced, you can:
- Write external procedures that import and export data from and to FileMaker databases.
- Develop procedures to transfer data between between FileMaker Pro and other database systems.
- Leverage the wide range of reporting and data access tools that support ODBC and JDBC
New Features
Live SQL integration
With FileMaker Server, you will save money and time by avoiding the installation and setup of the ODBC driver and DSN on every FileMaker Pro client. Your SQL administrator will appreciate having to open only a single account for multiple connections. And data security is enhanced since clients are not directly communicating with the SQL source.
Publish your data to the Web
With the PHP features of FileMaker Server, you can publish information to external websites, gather information from Web users, and create new solutions combining a Web-based front-end with a rich, FileMaker Pro back-end. Support for popular open source Web standards PHP and XSLT means you – and your Web developer – will be reading and writing live FileMaker Pro data in no time.
Enhanced Features
Easy to install
FileMaker Server and FileMaker Server Advanced were designed so that you can install without the help of IT. The software installs in 20 minutes or less. Really!
Easy to deploy
Built-in assistants help you install your software, upload your files and schedule backups and other activities. No special server hardware is required – FileMaker Server and FileMaker Server Advanced run well on Windows or Mac desktop hardware and operating systems, yet scale to take advantage of server-class hardware and operating systems.
Incredibly intuitive interface
The new Admin Console includes the Upload Database Assistant to upload FileMaker database files to the FileMaker Server. Just select the database files to upload, their destination, and whether they should open upon completion. The Upload Database Assistant automatically sets the file permissions. When the upload is complete, you can review the Upload Summary, which provides useful information in the unlikely event an error has occurred.
Accessible from wherever you are
The Admin Console brings together all aspects of server management in one place. Access the console from any computer on your network – even those not running FileMaker Pro or FileMaker Server. All you need is an Internet connection to the server.
“Traffic Light” status
After logging into the FileMaker Server, you’ll see the Deployment Overview Graph, which provides a graphical representation of the components of the server and their status so that you will know all parts of the server are up and available. Also, view information about how the server is being utilized from this screen.
Instant notifications
The new Email Notification feature delivers instant warnings if something is not working to the email addresses that you specify. You can configure notifications to be triggered at different levels of severity; for errors only or for both errors and warnings. The email notification can be sent to whatever email address you specify and configure, including those that you access on your computer, cell phone or other mobile devices. In addition, you can specify that email notification occur upon the completion of any scheduled activity.
Back up your data
Scheduling automatic backups is easy as 1-2-3. Just select whether to back up all databases, a particular database folder, or a single database and whether you want them backed up hourly, daily, weekly or at a custom time. You can even choose to perform a consistency check after the backup completes to ensure the integrity of your backup.Schedule backups as often as you like. Backups run in the background so your users can continue to use the database while the backup is happening. Protecting against accidental data loss is easy with FileMaker Server.
Monitor database access
Real-time user monitoring lets you see who is logged on at any moment. You can also view detailed information about users such as their account ID, what databases they have opened, how long they have been connected, and much more. Or select a specific database and view which users are connected to that database.
Safeguard your server hardware
The Admin Console provides remote server management from any point on your LAN, so you can store your server computer in a secure location and still administer it with ease. When you put FileMaker Server software on a dedicated computer, you can ensure that the databases are available 24x7. This is something you cannot do when your database files are on someone's personal work computer. If you are in a highly secured environment, you can designate which IP addresses are allowed to access the Admin Console remotely.
